Tributes pour in on Bal Thackeray's birth anniversary

On the occasion of Shiv Sena founder Bal Thackeray's birth anniversary, tributes poured in from all corners. Prime Minister Narendra Modi remembered the leader and paid homage through a tweet that read, "I pay homage to Shri Balasaheb Thackeray on his Jayanti. He will be remembered forever as an outstanding leader who always stood with the people."

Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray garlanded the portrait of Bal Thackeray along with that of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, whose birth anniversary also falls on 23 January. He paid floral tributes to his father at his official residence 'Varsha' in South Mumbai.
In Colaba, Mumbai Mayor Kishori Pednekar along with other dignitaries paid their tributes and showered flowers at the late leader's statue, installed on a traffic island opposite Regal Cinema and inaugurated on his 95th birth anniversary on 23 January 2021.
Bal Thackeray was born on 23 January 1926 in Pune. He left his job as a cartoonist in the daily newspaper Free Press Journal to eventually form Shiv Sena. He passed away on 17 November 2012 following a cardiac arrest.
