Three killed in explosion onboard INS Ranvir at Naval Dockyard

In an unfortunate incident, three naval personnel succumbed to injuries caused by an explosion in an internal compartment onboard INS Ranvir at Naval Dockyard in Mumbai on 18 January 2022. As per the official statement released by Indian Navy, the ship's crew responded immediately and quickly brought the situation under control and no major material damage was reported.

INS Ranvir was on cross coast operational deployment from the Eastern Naval Command since November 2021 and was due to return to base port shortly. A board of inquiry has been ordered to investigate into the cause.

The deceased included MCPO I ASWI Krishan Kumar, MCPO II (PT) Surinder Kumar and MCPO Com II (Tac) A K Singh. In the explosion, 11 other personnel sustained injuries and are being treated at the Naval Hospital, as per the statement.

Meanwhile, Chief of the Naval Staff Adm R Hari Kumar expressed his condolences at the unfortunate incident. A tweet by the Indian Navy read, "Adm R Hari Kumar #CNS & all personnel of #IndianNavy extend heartfelt condolences to the families of Krishan Kumar MCPO I, Surinder Kumar MCPO II & AK Singh MCPO II, who succumbed to injuries in the unfortunate incident onboard INS Ranvir. We stand by you in this difficult times."
