CPRA Residents Pledge To Uphold Freedom, On Republic Day

India's 72nd Republic Day celebrations were observed by residents and associations across Colaba and Cuffe Parade areas of South Mumbai. The Cuffe Parade Residents Association (CPRA) organised an event at the Bay View Marina Garden in Cuffe Parade on the morning of 26 January 2021. The attendees started gathering early and by 10 am the activities began with the unfurling of the national flag by a senior resident and Vice Chairman of the World Trade Centre, Mumbai Capt Somesh Batra.

CPRA Secretary Anand Sheth welcomed the 80-odd attendees at the event. Following the unfurling, BJP MLA Rahul Narwekar read out the Preamble of the Constitution of India to the attendees to mark the occasion. BJP Corporator Harshita Narwekar read out the National Pledge that is commonly recited by Indians in unison, at public events during Independence Day and Republic Day celebrations, as an oath of allegiance to the Republic of India.

Addressing the gathering, Mr Narkwekar spoke of the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and commended everyone's efforts in fighting it out during the challenging times. Capt Batra spoke of the importance of maintaining harmony in the area and beautification of the area.

The attendees included residents of Cuffe Parade and a few from Colaba. President of the CPRA Aditi Jain thanked the members for their participation and cooperation during the pandemic.

A workshop was held at the event to teach children painting and crafts. In all, thirty children from the neighbourhood participated in the creative workshop. The event concluded at 12 noon with refreshments for the attendees.
