Traffic Police removes confusing signage: The Draft Impact

A Draft Colaba Correspondent

Following The Draft Colaba's coverage on 8 February 2020 'Pay and Park' spot appears next to 'No Parking' Sign at Kala Ghoda festival venue and consistent follow-ups with the relevant authorities, the confusing 'Pay and Park' signage put alongside 'No Parking' signs was finally removed by the traffic police causing relief and clarity to riders and drivers in the area. Now, with the huge signage out of the way, a 'Parking' sign that remained obscured from public vision can be seen clearly. And, with it, clarifying to motorists a clearly demarcated 'Pay and Park' zone.

In a Draft Colaba Impact, following a report, the Traffic Police removed a huge 'Pay and Park' signage
covering the 'Parking' sign that clearly demarcates a 'Pay and Park' zone
The impact followed the publication of the issue of chaos, confusion and problems faced by members of the public visiting the Kala Ghoda Art Festival with the presence of 'No Parking' and 'Pay and Park' signage at the same spot at the Jehangir Art Gallery. With a 'Parking' sign obscured from vision, there was no clarity on the designated 'Pay and Park' zone.

Owing to it being the junction of K Dubash Marg and Mahatma Gandhi Road, the zone as all others around bends, had been earmarked a 'No Parking' zone. Soon appeared a 'Pay and Park' signage at the spot causing confusion, more so during the Kala Ghoda Art Festival where visitors were coming in thousands creating a parking mess.

Following multiple complaints to The Draft Colaba, the anomaly was brought to the notice of the Mumbai Police and the Traffic Police through The Draft Colaba's #SpeakUpMumbai Campaign. Clarity was sought on the issue that had created a huge mess at the time of one of the most-visited festivals in the city.

In Mumbai, space is a casualty. Vehicle owners, of both two and four wheelers, are constantly on the look for parking space. Any confusion created by misplaced or careless signage can lead to chaos, disorder and traffic jams. Vehicle owners also face the risk of vehicles being towed away despite parking in a zone supposedly earmarked for the purpose. The ambiguity is avoidable.

So, for the record, following the removal of the misleading signage, parking at the bend of the Kala Ghoda junction at Jehangir Art Gallery on in the K Dubash Marg lane is not permitted while vehicle-owners can park their vehicles on the main road between Jehangir Art Gallery and Chattrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sanghralaya aka the Museum at a charge on the Pay and Park stretch.
